Sigiri Fortress

Dambulla Cave Temple
This ancient cave temple is situated in A9 road in between Vihara Handiya and Kandalama Handiya. Most of the murals of this cave temple with drip-ledges are belonged to 18th century AD. There is a Dragon Arch at the entrance, when pass this arch five cave temples can be seen which are adorned with attractive wall paintings. Many Buddha Statues have been enshrined in these Caves.
Pidurangala Rajamaha Viharaya
This Cave Temple is located 2Km distance on the road to Department of Archeology at Sigiriya. That means in a near proximity of Sigiriya fortress. This place is introduced as the prominent place to view Sigiriya fortress. A close scene of Sigiriya rock can be observed form the summit of Pidurangala rock. Murals intimately identical to the fresco of Sigiriya, can be seen in the image house of this temple
Aluviharaya
This temple can be reached while travelling through A9 road from Matale. The cave temple complex of Aluviharaya temple is the main cave temple complex where that Tripitakas (Buddhist Scriptures) were written down on Ola leaves. There are 11 caves in this complex and all of them have drip ledges and are natural caves. The pleasant and tranquil environment of this temple is important and as well as a matching surrounding for a Buddhist temple.
Nalanda Gedige
Drives along Matale- Dambulla A9 road take the turn at 49th Km post which is close to the Nalanda hospital and proceed about 1.5Km along Nalanda Gedige and Bowathenna reservoir. Beyond the premises of Nalanda Gedige there in a beautiful green mountain range. There is Dumbara hills. It had been built by following Pallawa Tradition of 7th cen.AD This stone built buddhist religious place is intermingled with Hinduism
Sri Mutthumari Amman Kovil
This Kovil situate in Matale town is the main and the oldest Hindu temple in Matale. This is one of the main shrines of Hindu devotees and the Chariot festival which replicates the Hindu culture is one of the gratest festivals celebrate in this kovil. This Chariot festival is the most beautiful festival compared to other Hindu celebrations and this festival is world famous as well.
Riverstern
A panoramic view of Riverstern can be seen while travelling 26Km along Rattota road from Matale. Riverstern is 450 ha in extent and situated in 1260m- 1280m above sea level. This area receives 4000mm- 5000mm annual rainful therefore it belongs to wet zone of the central hills. The bio diversity unique to Knuckles range can also be identified in Riverstern
Pitawala Pathana
Travel from Matale via Raththota to Riverstern road then proceed 26Km to reach the summit of Riverstern then travel about further 6Km on the same road to reach the Grass lands. This grass land is often mist cloaked and consists of unique eco-system and is a part of Dumbara Mountain range. Therefore, it is an attractive natural environment consists of plants and animals endemic to that eco-system.
Minneriya National Park
Minneriya National Park is a wildlife sanctuary located in the North Central province of Sri Lanka. Nature lovers on Minneriya Jeep Safari often spot large number of Sri Lankan Elephants gathering around to grass fields on the edges of the reservoir during the dry season. In addition there are two endemic monkeys of Sri Lanka, Large herbivorous mammals such as Sri Lankan sambar deer and Sri Lankan axis deer, Rare and endangered species such as Sri Lankan leopard and Sri Lankan sloth bear, the gray slender loris, large water birds such as lesser adjutant, painted stork, and spot-billed pelican, little cormorants, Great white pelican, ruddy turnstone, and grey heron.
Kandalama Lake
This attractive reservoir is situated 10Km from Kandalama junction to the East of Dambulla close to Rangiri Dambulla Cave temple. Gorgeous Complex of Kandalama Hotel is situated at the back edge of the reservoir. The small island in the middle of this gift of nature intensifies its beauty. Water base activities such as fishing and boating have also been introduce for the maximum benefit of the tourists visit here.
Ibbankatuwa Pre Historic Burial Grounds
This cemetery relate to prehistoric era of Sri Lanka, is situated 3Km towards Kurunegala on Dambulla- Kurunegala road. According to carbon dating of pearls, seashells found from burial grounds, this cemetery belongs to Stone Age. The corpses were entombed and tomb stone were made out of stone pllars is a speciality of this structure. Most of the burials of this cemetary can be introduced as evidences of culture in Stone Age
Hunnas Falls
Travel 18Km through Kandy- Matale road via Watthegama turn to Elkaduwa road from watthegama and proceed 3Km, on scenic way to this fall through Imbulpitiya tea estate. This fall in a panoramic surrounding is situated about 1765m above sea level. Hunnasfalls Hotel is in a serene environment of the foot of this falls. It is encircled by a beautiful Knuckles mountain range. The height of this falls is 50-60m and the width is 12-15m, these are remarkable features of the falls.
Elkaduwa Sembuwaththa Lake
Travel from Matale to Ukuwela then take elkaduwa road from Ukuwela junction continue towards Elkaduwa take Hunugala road at Elkaduwa junction proceed 3-4Km to reach this lake in beautiful and tranquil surrounding. Apart from this access the other is through kandy-watthegama road to Elkaduwa road then take hunugala road. This lake and the Elkaduwa tea estate are situated to the West of the Knuckles range. This is an ideal place for photography. The depth of this lake is 30-40 feet. Thus, It is very dangerous to swim or have a bath.
Spice Garden- Matale
Visit a spice garden in Matale to see many different types of spices Sri Lanka is famous for. Just 25 km from the hill capital of Kandy, the Matale spice gardens are among the best on the island. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. A processing and training unit has been set up in the area and farmers are grouped in a cooperative to ensure fair prices and you will also be able to purchase spices.
