Horton Plains National Park
Horton Plains National Park is located 32Km away from Nuwaraeliya, Pattipola road via Ambewela in the highest tableland of Sri Lanka. It is one of the most important catchment areas which act as a giant sponge to store rain water. This marvelous plateau is covered by Montane evergreen forests, Cloud Forests, Grasslands, Marshy Lands and Aquatic eco systems. Horton Plains National Park with rich bio-diversuty spreads across over 3,169 hectares. It is situated at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level. Horton plains was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2010, considering that the national park consists of large number of rare and as well asendemic flora and fauna species.
